NPL’s Seattle Tsunami and the UW Husky Pickleball Team Are Among Top Talent at Mariners Pickleball Day

On Sunday, August 24, T-Mobile Park will host the Mariners vs. Athletics game, featuring a special collaboration between pickleball and baseball. Mariners Pickleball Day is regarded as one of Seattle’s most prominent pickleball events, drawing top athletes from the sport. Riley Newman, Tyson McGuffin, and Connor Garnett have participated by hosting the pre-game pickleball reception and delivering the ceremonial first pitch.

Pre-game Reception at Victory Hall

From 10 am to 12:30 pm, join MLP pro athlete Irina Tereschenko, National Pickleball League’s Seattle Tsunami, the UW Husky Pickleball Team, and SMPA for a pre-game reception with leading pickleball athletes of the Pacific Northwest. During the pre-game reception in Victory Hall, fans can pose for photos, get autographs, and interact with pro athletes on four taped pickleball courts. Pick up your Mariners paddle at Victory Hall and bring it into the game. Irina Tereschenko is throwing first pitch to Seattle Tsunami team manager James Main shortly before the game begins at 1:10 pm.

Victory Hall at the Boxyard, the Perfect Place to Celebrate

Victory Hall at the Boxyard is a 9,500 square foot, indoor venue across the street from T-Mobile Park at 1201 1st Ave S in Seattle. It has restrooms, two bars and an outdoor beer garden. Food and drink are available at the adjacent Hatback Bar and Grille, which opens at 10 am.

Irina Tereschenko is a two-time U.S. Open and National Champion, a former world #1 in singles, five-time Major League Pickleball champ, and PPA Tour champ. In 2023, Irina was ranked #5 in singles and #13 in women’s doubles. Irina has Washington roots. She coached D-1 tennis at UW and is a research assistant at the Center for Leadership in Athletics at UW.

Seattle Tsunami is Seattle’s first professional 50+ pickleball league team and the only pro team in the Pacific Northwest. The team is ranked #1 in the National Pickleball League. Seattle Tsunami will establish their base of operations at the newly developed Side Out Tsunami Pickleball Center, located in Seattle’s Rainier Valley.

The UW Husky Pickleball Team is the only Washington pickleball team competing in national collegiate events and is ranked 6th out of 100 teams in DUPR collegiate rankings.

The Mountain is Out! About the Seattle Mariners Pickleball Paddle

Seattle’s iconic Mount Rainier graces the Mariners pickleball paddle face. Each Mariners Pickleball Day ticket holder will receive the Mariners paddle, which has a unique handle crafted in the Mariners’ branded Northwest Green color. Manufactured by Pickleball Central, the Versix Strike 4F was designed in Seattle, Washington, where pickleball is the official state sport. Stats: USA Pickleball approved, lighter 7.3 oz avg, polypropylene core, 5.1-inch handle. The paddle is custom designed by the Mariners and available only at this event.

Meet and Greet Will Showcase Two New Pickleball Facilities in Seattle

On Mariners Pickleball Day, get to know two new pickleball facilities opening in Seattle, Side Out Tsunami Pickleball Center and Picklewood Courts and Kitchen. Both are set to open before or by fall 2025. Side Out Tsunami Pickleball Center in Rainier Valley is membership based. Picklewood Courts and Kitchen in SODO has no membership or initiation fees and includes an Ethan Stowell restaurant and bar.

Side Out Tsunami Pickleball Center calls itself “the Northwest’s biggest and best pure pickleball playground.” The membership-based facility has 25 premium pickleball courts with two championship courts. Nearly 100,000 sf, this indoor facility has six high-tech replay courts and digital scoreboards. It offers spectator seating and flexible event hosting for tournaments, corporate outings, and private parties. The address is 2300 26th Ave S in Seattle.

Picklewood Courts and Kitchen brands itself as the ultimate recreation destination in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. It redefines the country club aesthetic as pickleball for all. Courtside food and drinks are provided courtesy of celebrity Chef Ethan Stowell. The facility will have 7 indoor courts and 4 outdoor courts. It will offer Rubinstein Bagels, ping pong and a pro shop. The address is 4121 1st Avenue S in Seattle.

The Mariners are currently #2 in the AL West. Derby Champ Cal Raleigh is the one to watch, with one of the rarest statistical seasons for a catcher in the history of baseball.
