Big Day of Play Street Fair Features Sports, Entertainment, Family Fun and Shuttle Service
On August 16 from 12 pm to 5 pm, Seattle Parks and Recreation will host the Big Day of Play. This free street fair takes place in two locations, the Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center at 3800 Lake Washington Blvd S and Rainier Playfield at 3700 Alaska Street.
The Big Day of Play highlights Seattle’s diversity and brings neighbors and families together for activities as part of Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Get Moving Initiative. The street fair will include live performances, bounce houses, youth and family activities, pickleball, basketball, and a one-mile fun run. The event also features free sailing, rowing demos by Club Sake, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboard rides.
Block party activities and events include a Soul Line Dance with Steppers Unite Inc, a 360 camera and digital wall, arts and crafts, balloon twisting, bubbles, a caricaturist, games, and face painting. Fifteen performers on the main stage include MC David Deejay Jackson, Flea Circus, Mak Fai Kung Fu Dragon and Lion Dancers, Rainbow City Marching Band, and dancing troupes.
Food vendors include Sweet Krazy Corn, Seoul Bowl Korean Eats, Impeckable Fried Chicken, Sugar and Spoon, Kona Ice, Legendary Doughnuts and Ice Cream Express.
Shuttle service between the community center and the rowing center will be provided. Prize giveaways are scheduled from 3 to 3:30 pm. RSVP for a chance to win here.
Event Includes a Pickleball Tournament, Free Beginner Clinic and Open Play
Four taped pickleball courts at Rainier Playfield will feature a pickleball tournament, a free, one-hour beginner clinic and open play.
The Big Pickle Tournament
The Big Pickle Tournament at Rainier Playfield consists of two tournament divisions competing for one hour each. The deadline to enter the Big Pickle tournament has been extended to Monday, August 11 at midnight. This co-ed event welcomes all ages, has a $15 per person entry fee, and will take place on outdoor tennis courts taped for pickleball. The entry fee covers SPR’s associated costs for the purchase of pickleball nets, balls and line tape.
The beginner division competes from 12 to 1 pm. The intermediate division competes from 1 to 2 pm. Both levels will compete for prizes and recognition. Participation is capped at eight teams per level. Each team is guaranteed three matches played to 11 points in a fun, fast-paced format.
